If you’re traveling from downtown Bangkok to Don Mueang Airport, you have a few options. This article focuses on the bus route, specifically the one we used in late September 2024, which involves transferring at BTS Mo Chit Station.
The BTS Mo Chit Station to Bus Route from Central Bangkok
To reach Don Mueang Airport from central Bangkok areas like Asok or Phrom Phong, your first step is to take the BTS Skytrain to Mo Chit Station. (For details on using the BTS from Suvarnabhumi Airport, please refer to our separate article from September 2024). The BTS fare to Mo Chit is 47 baht.
Upon arriving at Mo Chit Station, you’ll see a bus stop across the road, which is your next destination. Follow the signs towards the MRT station, cross the road using the pedestrian walkway, and descend on the opposite side.

Transferring to the A1 Bus at Chatuchak Park Bus Stop
Once you descend the stairs from the walkway, you’ll find the bus stop (Chatuchak Park Bus Stop). Many bus routes stop here, but you’ll want to wait at the spot with the display board for the A1 bus, typically just before the covered area.

The A1 bus route number is clearly displayed on the front of the bus via an electronic sign, making it easy to spot. These buses run approximately every 20 minutes. When an A1 bus arrives and stops, board from the front.
Fare is 30 Baht, Card Payment Available
Shortly after departure, a conductor will come around to collect the fare. The A1 bus fare is 30 baht, and card payments are also accepted. Be sure to keep your ticket or receipt until you exit the bus. The journey takes about 20 minutes and the bus will drop you directly in front of the Don Mueang Airport Departure Terminal.

Traveling from Don Mueang Airport to Central Bangkok by Bus
The reverse journey from Don Mueang Airport to the city center via bus is straightforward. Once you arrive at Don Mueang Airport, follow the signs in the arrival terminal to the bus stops on the 1st floor.
Wait at the designated A1 bus stop. When the bus arrives, board and pay the 30 baht fare to the conductor (card payments are also accepted). Many passengers will alight at BTS Mo Chit, so it should be obvious when to get off. If you’re unsure, you can always ask the conductor, “BTS Mo Chit?” Once you alight, you’ll see BTS Mo Chit Station, where you can transfer to the Skytrain.
Other Access Routes: SRT
While this article focuses on the bus route, another option is to take the State Railway of Thailand (SRT) from Bang Sue Station to Don Mueang Station. However, Bang Sue Station does not directly connect to the BTS, requiring an MRT transfer. For those coming from areas not served by the MRT, this could involve multiple transfers, raising questions about its overall time and cost benefits, as well as physical effort. We plan to explore and verify this SRT route on a future trip to Bangkok.
