During a visit to Iloilo on Panay Island, Philippines, in August 2024, I had the opportunity to check out a local cinema, Robinsons Movieworld Jaro. For those wondering about the movie-going experience in the Philippines, here’s a rundown of what to expect, with some comparisons to other local and Asian cinemas.

Robinsons Movieworld Jaro: A Convenient Stop for Movie Lovers

Robinsons Movieworld Jaro is conveniently located on the third floor of the Robinsons Place Jaro shopping mall. This cinema boasts approximately four screens, offering a decent selection of films. At the time of my visit, ticket prices were standardized at 290 pesos (roughly 750 JPY) for all movies, which is quite straightforward.

The Robinsons Place Jaro mall itself is a three-story complex situated near the prominent Jaro Cathedral. Beyond the cinema, it’s a bustling hub featuring a variety of restaurants, cafes, a supermarket, and a food court, making it a great spot for a full day out. Adding to its convenience, the front of the mall also serves as a bus and jeepney terminal, making access quite easy.

Comparing Cinemas: Movieworld vs. SM City Iloilo

While Robinsons Movieworld offers a simple pricing structure, it’s worth noting that other cinemas in the area, such as SM City Iloilo cinema, provide more diverse viewing options. SM City Iloilo, for instance, categorizes its movie screenings into three types:

  • Regular: 295 pesos
  • Directors Club: 570 pesos (likely offering a more premium experience)
  • IMAX: 790 pesos (for an immersive cinematic experience)

This variety allows movie-goers to choose an experience that best fits their preference and budget.
