🚐 Getting from Iloilo Airport to the City Center by Shared Minibus

When I visited Iloilo City on Panay Island in August 2024, I opted for a shared minibus from the airport into town. It’s a budget-friendly alternative to taxis—here’s a detailed account of how it went.

1. Transportation Options from Iloilo Airport

  • Taxi (including Grab)
Ideal for groups or travelers with heavy luggage. Grab is recommended over airport taxis for its upfront pricing and rated service—see my review in a separate article.
  • Jeepney
The cheapest option, but not beginner-friendly. No direct route to SM City means transfers are required—see my posts on jeepneys in Manila and Davao for tips.
  • Shared Minibus (My choice)
Cheapest direct ride to SM City Iloilo. No need to change vehicles—highly recommended for solo travelers or couples.

2. Boarding the Minibus at the Airport

  • Location: Exit the arrivals area and cross the road to a small structure. Walk straight from the pedestrian crossing, then turn left.
  • Look for: Minibuses labeled “Airport ⇄ SM City.” Staff in yellow shirts will guide you—just follow them. ryokanworld.com

3. What the Journey Was Like

  • Departure: The minibus leaves once full—around 10 passengers. It was quite cramped, especially with luggage aboard.
  • Price: PHP 100 per person, collected by staff before departure. en.wikipedia.org
  • Travel Time: Roughly 30 minutes nonstop to SM City, even in the evening with no significant traffic delays.

4. Arrival at SM City Iloilo

The minibus pulled up at the entrance next to SM City’s main door. This spot serves as a hub—airport shuttles and jeepneys stop here, making it easy to transfer to other parts of Iloilo.
