The Cheapest Way to Get from Kuala Lumpur Airport to the City Center: Limousine Bus

English Page

Transportation from the Airport to the City

Here are the ways to get from Kuala Lumpur International Airport in Malaysia to Kuala Lumpur city center:

  • Train (KLIA Express): This is the fastest way to get to the city’s central station, taking about 30 minutes, but it’s more expensive.
  • Limousine Bus: This takes about an hour but is the cheapest option.
  • Taxi (including ride-hailing apps): Suitable for those with a lot of luggage, and can be cost-effective for groups.

Each option has its pros and cons. This article will explain transportation from Terminal 2 (KLIA2) to Kuala Lumpur Central Station (commonly known as KL Sentral), based on information from June 18, 2024. (1 Malaysian Ringgit is calculated as approximately 33 JPY).

Using the Limousine Bus from KLIA2 to KL Sentral

After exiting the airport, walk straight. Follow the signs marked “BAS” (Bus). After a short walk, you’ll see a sign directing you down to the first floor. Take the escalator down.

Next, buy your ticket at the ticket counter located further inside. While there are ticket machines, since you’ve just arrived, it’s easier to buy from the manned counter. Just say “KL Sentral” to the staff, and they’ll understand. They will tell you the price, departure time, and boarding gate number. This counter is cashless, so payment must be made by credit card.

Once you have your ticket, wait for your bus at the designated boarding area. To enter and exit the waiting room, you’ll need to scan the QR code on your ticket. Check the electronic display board for your bus and head to the boarding gate shortly before its arrival. The bus I took this time had a seat number on the ticket, but in practice, there were no assigned seats, and I could sit anywhere. The bus departed and arrived at KL Sentral non-stop in one hour.

Information

The bus starts from Terminal 1 and then comes to Terminal 2. It operates approximately twice an hour. If you don’t buy your ticket early, it might be full, and you’ll have to wait for the next bus, which means waiting for an hour. This option is suitable for those who have ample time but want to save on costs. The fare was 16 Malaysian Ringgit (approximately 549 JPY).
