Japanese citizens require a visa to visit Nepal for tourism, regardless of the duration of their stay. A visa on arrival can be obtained through simple procedures upon arrival at the airport.
What is a Visa on Arrival?
A visa on arrival is a method of obtaining your visa at the immigration counter upon arrival at Nepalese airports or border crossings. Since there’s no need to obtain a visa from an embassy beforehand, it allows for easy entry into Nepal.
Who Can Enter with a Visa on Arrival?
Generally, those traveling for tourism purposes for a short stay can enter with a visa on arrival. However, conditions may vary depending on nationality and duration of stay.
Visa Durations and Fees
- 15 days: USD 30
- 30 days: USD 50
- 90 days: USD 125
What You Need for a Visa on Arrival Application
- Valid Passport: Must have at least 6 months of validity remaining at the time of application.
- Visa Application Fee: Must be paid in US dollars. The amount varies depending on the duration of stay.
- Return or onward flight ticket/proof of exit: Documentation proving your intention to leave Nepal.
- Accommodation booking confirmation: Hotel reservation or similar.
- Smartphone (with camera function): To take a photo and save the confirmation screen after entering your details.
Visa Application Procedures
- Upon arrival at Tribhuvan International Airport, proceed to the visa counter.
- Enter the required information into the machine (computer), then take a photo of the confirmation screen with your smartphone camera and save it.
- Go to the visa payment counter. Show the officer the confirmation screen image you took with your camera, pay the fee, and they will affix the visa sticker to your passport.
- Proceed to immigration.
