Jakarta, the capital of Indonesia, is a bustling metropolis with numerous cinemas. This time, I will provide information about CGV Grand Indonesia, located in the West Mall of Grand Indonesia, a central shopping mall.

Additionally, I’ll briefly introduce the money exchange shop and food court in the mall.

CGV Grand Indonesia Cinema

CGV Grand Indonesia is located on the 8th floor of the “Grand Indonesia West Mall,” a shopping mall in central Jakarta. Upon entering, take the elevator on your right to the 5th floor, then transfer to the escalator to reach the 8th floor.

Purchasing Tickets or Issuing Reserved Tickets

Upon entering, you’ll find ticket vending and issuing machines on your right. The operating screen is only in English and Indonesian. Select the movie, screen grade, and showtime, then choose your seats. Afterward, select your payment method (credit card, debit card) or QR code payment to complete the transaction.

You can also purchase tickets on the day of your visit, or you can reserve and pay for them on the CGV website in advance and only issue the tickets on the day. Reservation requires member registration (email address and password), and payment is made via credit card. For popular films, it’s recommended to book in advance to secure good seats. At this particular cinema, there are two ticket issuing machines on the right.

Encountering a Detective Conan Event

On this day, I thought there was a screening of Detective Conan, but the official release in Indonesia was on August 7th. This particular screening was a “Fan Screen,” an advance showing exclusively for fans.

Suddenly, a fan event began, but it seemed to be unauthorized within the venue, as security guards intervened and the participants had to disperse. It appeared they had put a lot of effort into the preparations, indicating the high popularity of Conan in Indonesia.

About Grand Indonesia West Mall

Money Exchange Shop: DUA SISI

The money exchange shop “DUA SISI,” reportedly offering good rates, is located on the basement floor (LG floor in Indonesia) of the same West Mall. I couldn’t compare it with other shops, and the exchange rate was volatile at the time, so I couldn’t truly verify if it had the best rates. Unlike tourist destinations such as Bali, Jakarta doesn’t have many money exchange shops lined up on the streets. So, although it was a bit of a walk from my accommodation, I only exchanged money at this shop in Jakarta.

Food Courts on the 4th and 5th Floors

Although I mentioned that the elevator to the cinema on the 8th floor goes up to the 5th floor, it actually only reaches the 5th floor. The 5th and 4th floors host food courts with numerous shops. While there are also restaurants on the basement level, the upper-floor food courts had a more casual atmosphere. Perhaps because it was a Saturday, both floors were packed with families and children. Despite the casual atmosphere, individual dishes cost over 60,000 Rupiah, so the prices weren’t exactly “casual.”

There were also many Japanese shops and Japanese food establishments. Although you don’t see many Japanese shops on the streets of Jakarta, they seem to be present in upscale malls. Given that the Japanese Embassy is also nearby in central Jakarta, perhaps there are many Japanese residents in the area.
