In August 2024, I visited the Philippines. The paper immigration cards have been abolished, and “e-Travel” digital registration has become mandatory for entry and exit. This article will guide you through the registration process based on my actual experience.
What is e-Travel?
e-Travel is an online system introduced by the Philippine government to efficiently manage immigration by pre-collecting traveler information. Since April 15, 2023, registration has been mandatory not only for entering the Philippines but also for departing the country.
On the way to immigration after landing, there are numerous reminders about the e-Travel procedure. If you miss these, you’ll end up frantically trying to register at the immigration counter. Make sure to register beforehand.

Registration Method
Creating an Account
- Access: Visit the official e-Travel website: https://etravel.gov.ph/signin
- Account Creation: Enter your email address to create an account.

Entering Travel Information
- Information Entry: Accurately enter the following information:
- Passport information
- Travel information (departure location, arrival location, flight number, etc.)
- Address of your stay
Obtaining the QR Code
- QR Code Acquisition: After confirming your input and submitting, a QR code will be issued. This QR code must be presented during immigration clearance.
- Customs Declaration: After the QR code is issued, click “for Customs Online Declaration, CLICK HERE” to complete the customs declaration procedure and obtain another 2D barcode. This barcode must be presented during customs declaration.
On August 13, 2024, I went through immigration in Manila. I had my QR code ready at the counter, but the immigration officer only looked at my passport and did not check my phone screen. When my passport was returned, I showed the QR code to the officer, and they simply said “OK.” While it seems they might know even without seeing the screen, it’s not clear if this is always the case, and it certainly doesn’t mean you don’t need to register.
Important Notes
- Registration Timing: You can register starting from 72 hours before your scheduled arrival date in the Philippines.
- Required Documents: Passport, and the two 2D barcodes obtained from e-Travel.
- Abolition of Paper Immigration Cards: As of May 1, 2023, paper immigration and departure cards have been abolished.
Other Information
- eGovPH App: Registration is also possible via the “eGovPH” smartphone app. It’s convenient to register on the app if you plan to travel to the Philippines again in the future.
- Changes/Cancellations: If there are any changes to your registered information, you must register again.
